At CSM Motorcycle Training, female riders are not only welcome but also cared for, as we know that women motorcycle riders are a force to be reckoned with. During motorcycle training, we help them in all ways to enjoy the rides as they wish to. We try to build in confidence in them so that they can enjoy their ride completely. Women have become such a significant buying force that companies like BMW and Suzuki are designing bikes tailored to women's physique.

We assure you that whatever motorcycle rider training course you choose, whether it is the CBT or the advanced motorcycle-training course, you will find it full of fun and enjoyment, with the best instructors available.

CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) was introduced in Dec 1990 to try and reduce the number of new riders who were crashing on provisional licenses, as a life saving measure on the roads.

A CBT course is needed if you just want to ride a motorcycle as a learner. CBT certificates are now valid for two years - if after that time you still wish to ride as a learner, you will need to retake your CBT. This is a requirement for anyone, regardless of age or experience, who wants to ride a moped or motorcycle on the road. The only exception is a car driver who wishes to ride a moped only and who passed their car test before 1st Februay 2001. Obtaining your Compulsory Basic Training certificate is a legal requirement. The course introduces you to basic riding skills and road craft. This is a requirement for anyone, regardless of age or experience, who wants to ride a moped or motorcycle on the road.

CBT is a course of training that you are required to complete satisfactorily and there is no exam as it is not a test. CBT has proved to be a great success in acheiving it's aim - to improve road safety and reduce the number of motorcycle accidents on our roads.

125

If you are between 17 and 21 and want a full licence you must take the test on a machine between 121cc and 125cc for a Group A licence. When the test is passed, learner restrictions are removed and the licence is valid for machines up to 25kw, approximately 33hp. After 2 years this restriction is removed and you may ride anything you can afford to insure! If you reach the age of 21 before 2 years have passed you may take Accelerated Access, which means passing the test again, but on a machine over 35kw, see DAS.

DAS (Direct Access Scheme)

The other course that we cover is the Direct Access Scheme (DAS) that is designed for riders over 21 years old, who wish to ride bikes of unlimited size and power. Our Instructors determine the course lengths by the individual's level of skill and competence. You have to go through the free assessment test, as the instructors would like to assess your riding skills before they advice you the number of days for DAS training. Novice riders will naturally require more training than experienced riders! This is available to those over 21, where training and the test is conducted on machines over 35kw, approximately 46.6hp. A pass now results in a full and unrestricted licence immediately.

IMPROVER

If you have passed your test but are still concerned with certain aspects of your riding, roundabouts, right hand bends, or junctions for example, we can tailor further sessions to eliminate your concerns. This is proving increasingly popular.

BACK TO BIKING

You passed your test many years ago and have not ridden much, if at all, since. You are in the group that statistics show have the most accidents and this is due to the immense power and braking efficiency of today's motorcycles. We can gently lead you back to biking using one of our 500's and then continue, if you wish, on your new bike.

ADVANCED

Once you have been riding your machine for a few months, taking the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) motorcycle test will demonstrate your capabilities as an experienced, thinking motorcyclist. The added bonus is that most insurance companies acknowledge this with a useful discount on your premium.

After you have covered your Compulsory Basic Training, you can opt for advanced motorcycle training. The advanced motorcycle training course helps you refine your riding skills, so our instructors determine you motorcycle riding skills so that you are left with a more accurate profile of your riding skills Taking the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) motorcycle test will demonstrate your capabilities as an experienced, thinking motorcyclist. The added bonus is that most insurance companies acknowledge this with a useful discount on your premium.
